Abstract

A subjectively “large fetal gallbladder has been reported in association with chromosomal anomalies, but is a very non-specific finding. The authors observed a visually distended fetal gallbladder at the time of the anomaly scan (18–22 weeks) in many cases. Co-incidently these were the cases where fetal structural anomalies were more common. So analysis of specific system anomalies was done in the cases where actual distended gallbladder was present after taking out the volume and comparing it with the normograms (taken from “Fetal gallbladder growth and development during gestation”, published in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine/Volume 14, Issue 6) for the period of gestation. Statistical analysis was done to find out the association between a truly distended fetal gallbladder and fetal structural abnormalities.
